Cultural Event at Celto-Slavica 4 (Poland)

cs4_cultural

The cultural event at the Fourth International Colloquium of Societas Celto-Slavica was generously supported by the Irish Mission in Warsaw. The event started off with the reading from the newly available translation of the Early Irish epic, Táin Bó Cúailnge, by an acclaimed Irish poet and critic Ciaran Carson. The reading was followed by a presentation 'Stone Novel of Éire' carried out by Natalia Abelian, Irish-resident artist of mixed Russian-Armenian origin, who prepared an exhibition of the works of art (paintings and photographs) and a short speech dedicated to stones and their role in the cultural landscape of Irish tradition (both natural and man-made). The event's closing was carried out by Eddie Brannigan, Deputy Head of Irish Mission in Poland, who presented Prof. Séamus Mac Mathúna, the President of the Societas, as well as Prof. Emer. Hildegard Tristram, an invited speaker at the Colloquium, and the organisers - Prof. Piotr Stalmaszczek and Dr Maxim Fomin - with the mint of Celtic coins of the Boii tribe prepared by the Irish Cultural Foundation which represented the replicas of the artefacts excavated at Kalisz (Poland).
